Our Story
She doesn't hide.
She arrives.
By Sara Al Issa — Founder, MAHSA
It started with a mirror
I turned 40 and everything changed. Not my confidence. Not my energy. Not the way I walked into a room. Those only got better.
What changed was my mirror.
I'm Sara. Mother of two boys, woman who has always shown up — for her kids, her work, her life. And like most women who hit 40, I started noticing something no one really talks about openly: every foundation I had trusted for years suddenly looked wrong on my face.
Cakey. Heavy. Like I was wearing a mask instead of my own skin. My fine lines — the ones I had earned, the ones I was proud of — were suddenly being highlighted by the very products I was using to look my best.
I would spend 20, 30, 40 minutes getting ready and walk out looking worse than when I started.
I tried everything. Drugstore. Department store. "Clean beauty." "Anti-aging." "Mature skin formula." Nothing worked. Everything either caked up by noon, settled into my lines by 10am, or felt so heavy I could feel it sitting on my face all day.
I kept thinking — how is there nothing out there for a woman like me?
I wasn't looking for a miracle
I wasn't trying to look 25. I love where I am. I love what my face says about my life — the late nights, the laughter, the hard years that made me who I am. I just wanted something that would let my skin look like my skin — on a really good day. Even. Luminous. Real.
Something I could put on in 60 seconds and actually feel good before school drop-off, before a meeting, before any of the hundred things a mother of two has to get to.
It didn't exist. So I made it.
The name
But the name came from somewhere deeper.
Mahsa was my best friend's sister. She was luminous in the way some people just are — the kind of presence you feel when she walks into a room. She passed away in a car accident, too soon, too suddenly, the way life sometimes takes people before you're ready to let them go.
I wanted her name to mean something. I wanted my best friend to know that what she carried — that loss, that love — was seen. Was acknowledged. Would not be forgotten.
In Persian, Mahsa means like the moon. Luminous. Constant. Quietly powerful. It felt exactly right for a product made to remind women of their own light.
Building the formula
I spent months working on a formula built around one woman — the woman I was, and the woman I knew millions of others were too. A woman in her 40s, 50s, 60s who had tried everything and been let down every time.
Vitamin E to nourish while it covered. Sunflower Seed Wax to glide on without tugging. Carnauba Wax to keep everything in place — not plastered, just present. Lightweight emollients that never felt heavy. Mineral pigments that breathed instead of suffocated.
No parabens. No sulfates. Nothing that had no business being on skin that deserved better. And all of it in one stick — foundation, concealer, and contour. Swipe, blend with your fingers, done. Because at this stage of life I am not spending 40 minutes on makeup. I have two boys to get out the door and a life to get to.
The moment I knew
The first time I used the final formula, my eyes went teary.
I looked like me — just the version of myself I felt on the inside, finally showing up on the outside. Clear. Even. Real. My fine lines were still there. But they weren't being highlighted anymore. I looked awake without looking done up.
I thought of Mahsa. I thought — this is for her. And for every woman who deserves to be seen.
I sent it to women I knew. Then women I didn't know. The messages came back within days.
"My coworker stopped mid-sentence and asked what I was doing differently."
"I threw out six products after the first week."
"I'm 52 and my skin hasn't looked this good since my 30s."
That was the moment I knew this was bigger than me.
